![]() The P38 was adopted as Germany’s main service pistol at the beginning of WWII and during the war, it was made by both Mauser and Spreewerke in addition to Walther. ![]() These features are still in use today on modern pistols such as the Beretta Model 92. It was the first locked breech pistol to have a single action/double action trigger and used a de-cocker instead of a safety to lower the hammer and allow the pistol to be carried hammer down on a loaded chamber. The P38 occupies a significant place in history. The front barrel flat is marked with two "Eagle / 155" inspection marks and a circled dot. The right side of the frame is marked with two "Eagle / 186" inspection stamps. The left side of the frame below the takedown lever is marked with a circled dot and "148969", and behind the takedown lever with the import mark "INTERARMS. ![]() The right side of the slide is marked with an "Eagle / 155" inspection stamp (This stamp is by the German Federal Office of Defense Technology and Procurement or "BWB".) and the date code "11/61". The left side of the slide is marked with a circled dot (Walther factory stamp for pistols produced to military/police standards), a four pointed star, an "Eagle / 155" inspection mark (In conjunction with the four pointed star, represents a changed or new firing pin, a Walther banner logo, "Carl Walther Waffenfabrik Ulm/Do.
